What the brewers say

“Belgian ale fermented in Amarone barrels.”

What our panel thought

“Dried apricot, fresh lemon zest, herbal, white pepper, oak, white grapes on the nose. Light tartness mingles with a wine-like note that slowly melds into a layer of oak. Sweet Nerds candy–like quality in the lasting aftertaste.”

What our editors thought

“Light herbal buzz in the aroma with sweeter malt notes underneath, but conveyed with brisk intention. Light fruit-pith fermentation notes. with a lemony sheen and nutty undertones.”

Solemn Oath Brewery Punk Rock For Rich Kids

“Drinks like a classic American pale ale. The hop character lends citrus and piney notes, Fruity Pebbles, and Trix on the nose. Tastes just like it smells with a diesely overtone, resiny grapefruit, and sweet, sticky grain. Restrained bitterness lets the malty caramel notes punch through. Just a hint of Belgian character comes through the flavor profile. Bursting with mysterious fruity flavors and a deep, foresty dankness you want to disappear into.”

Epic Brewing Brainless Belgian-style Golden Ale

“Spicy nose with some warming hints. Rich malt with light fruit, candy sugar, white-pepper notes. Hop character is an afterthought. Gets more interesting as it warms. Finish is sweeter and softer than a typical golden strong, but it’s still very pleasant.”

The Big Friendly Tapestry From An Asteroid (2023)

Begins with combination of white grapes and citrus zest, pineapple & orange. Aroma is vinous and white winelike, kind of a rich chardonnay with tons of barrel presence. Acidity has a lime character which cuts through that oaky richness; supported well by meringue fluff notes, which add levity. The wine character is the most interesting part of the sip, which opens with sweet pastry dough and then quickly dives into sauvignon blanc and white grape seeds. The swallow has a burpy funk to it that seems partially barrel-related but isn't entirely welcome. Surprisingly rich malt flavors, earthy hops, more citrus. Sweet at the finish. Acidity really seems to stand in for carbonation in terms of cleaning up the sip.
