What the brewers say

"Whiskey milk stout made with natural flavors."

What our panel thought

“The aroma suggests whiskey, but butterscotch is much stronger in that mix. With vanilla, chocolate, and marshmallow, you get a candied first impression before you even sip. The flavor brings a decent level of stout character to bear, but the whiskey balance is similarly tilted toward a blend of vanilla, caramel, and butterscotch.”

What our editors thought

“Very sweet honeysuckle nose with a perfumey, vanilla-fruit intensity. The sip is dialed back, with chocolate soda and dark- roast notes wrestling with vanilla extract. A bit of a synthetic feel.”

Single Hill Brewing Company Reserve - Osa Major

“Alcoholic heat in the nose obscures hints of roasted malt, chocolate, and caramel. Booze carries into the flavor, stripping away more subtle complexities. Roasty, smoky, with pleasantly malty profile.”

Idle Hands Craft Ales Raspberry Torte

“Roast malt, dark chocolate, and coffee notes punctuated by an earthy nondescript berry note in the nose. Expresses as tart, underripe raspberry in the sip, accentuating the dryness and bitterness of both the roasted malt and hops. Light vanilla-like sweetness in the finish.”

Karbach Weekend Warrior

Aroma: “Light bread-like malt sweetness. It’s fun to tease the hops out of this one: fruity hops with light tropical and a touch of earthy; light spicy hops; grassy, pine hops with a faint floral backing; citrus (orange mostly); some catty notes. Clean and delicate.” Flavor: “Very balanced. Pine hops give a Christmas tree welcome. Citrus hops flavor tends toward grapefruit. The bready malt helps you relax, and the bitterness is restrained. A touch heavier body than other examples with a moderate carbonation level. Finishes with bitterness and a light hops spiciness.” Overall: “A touch bigger body with a nice fruity hops profile. Very pleasant. A good pale ale. It’s well-done and balanced.”
