What the brewers say

“Bright tropical-fruit and citrusy aromas and flavors with a big bite.”

What our panel thought

“Inviting aroma with complex hops touching on lemon, berry, and very light sulfur/dank notes. Moderate grapefruit and light pine. Dry and quite bitter with a huge hop-flavor blast of complex fruitiness. No malt gets in the way of the hops—savor the long finish and aftertaste. Well-balanced and crisp.”

What our editors thought

“Bright orange nose with a creamy element—deliciously enticing. The sip knocks that down a touch with a funky and pithy herbal bitterness.”

Top Rung Brewing Company Winter Lager

Malt-forward aroma: toast, cocoa, raisin, cola, Maduro cigar, light coffee, hint of browned johnnycake. Heady, malt-dominated flavor—deep toasted bread crust, cocoa, fig, raisin, spicy ethanol, toffee, dried cherry. Hop-bitterness builds. Quite creamy. Clean. Lovely. Doppelbock-adjacent.

Lawson’s Finest Liquids Ruby Red Grapefruit Double Sunshine

Semihazy with lingering grapefruit aromas that transcend into a well-executed balance of grapefruit and malt character. The grapefruit and the hops complement each other well while the malt bill supports and rounds out the picture. Semidry finish begs for another sip.

Dutchess Ales GB Pale Ale

Earthy, herbal, grassy hop aroma with mild fruit and light toasty malt. In the flavor, nice balance between assertive hop bitterness, earthy-piney hop flavor, and toasty-bread malt. Super drinkable. Lasting bitterness. Could enjoy several. This hits the numbers.
