What the brewers say

Made using malt exclusively from our friends at Mecca Grade Estate Malting, creating what we call a PNW-style doppelbock.

What our panel thought

Malt-forward aroma: toast, cocoa, raisin, cola, Maduro cigar, light coffee, hint of browned johnnycake. Heady, malt-dominated flavor—deep toasted bread crust, cocoa, fig, raisin, spicy ethanol, toffee, dried cherry. Hop-bitterness builds. Quite creamy. Clean. Lovely. Doppelbock-adjacent.

What our editors thought

Piney hops with a touch of citrus in the nose; chocolate-fig notes emerge as its sits. In the sip, those richer dark-fruit notes push through the wall of chocolate and roast.

Top Rung Brewing Company G'Rip It Sour Ale

“Kool-Aid-like purple appearance, really wild. Passion fruit dominates the nose, with a touch of cereal. Moderate sour punch hits the tongue first, with a semi-quick finish, fading into passion fruit with hints of kiwi and grape. Fairly easy to drink. Light on the tongue and refreshing.”

Top Rung Brewing Company HDR #14

“Inviting aroma with complex hops touching on lemon, berry, and very light sulfur/dank notes. Moderate grapefruit and light pine. Dry and quite bitter with a huge hop-flavor blast of complex fruitiness. No malt gets in the way of the hops—savor the long finish and aftertaste. Well-balanced and crisp.”

Drake's Brewing Co. Crispy Boi Lager

“Super-dank nose; bright citrus. Big burst of flavor; clean pale malt provides a honey-like base for resinous hops to play. Fades fast and dry. Somewhat one dimensional—but quite a good dimension.”
