Uprise Brewing Co. Retrospect

What the brewers say

Highlighted by Simcoe, Strata and Citra hops, this West Coast IPA has aromas of peach and papaya with a gentle, but bright bitterness.

What our panel thought

Pale golden with a very thin white head. Onion and grassy aromas with a bit of spicy character, fresh straw, guava, and pineapple. Vibrant body with herbal hop flavors and a solid, smooth, slightly sweet malt structure. Low hop bitterness with tropical, fruity flavors and some lingering pine notes. Softer finish with a touch of bitterness. On trend with the ascent of juicy and tropical low-bitterness west coast IPAs.

What our editors thought

Gentle passionfruit and a touch of peach with a light and fresh tropical floral top note in the aroma. Bold initial peppery bitterness with light body. Succinct, direct, and tightly edited.

Uprise Brewing Co. Bright Side

Edgy from the get go, pushing the boundaries of catty, leaving room for berries, mostly strawberries and an impression of white grapes. Light, bready malts let the full range of hop flavors shine, before restrained bitterness kicks in.

Moonraker Brewing Co. Straight Up Nelson

“Very soft citrus aromas with touches of herbal, melon. Flavor has a lightly sweet malt base, with bright citrus hop flavors layered above. Hop bitterness lingers pleasingly into the somewhat sweet finish.”

Offshoot Beer (The Bruery) Escape [it's your everyday West Coast IPA]

“Sweet herbaceous blend on the nose, black tea and cannabis. Touches of citrus underneath. Sweet malt flavor brings out more cannabis, more citrus, lime zest.”
