Wallenpaupack Brewing Company Lake Haze #27 - Polar Plunge

What the brewers say

“Hazy DIPA with notes of overripe tropical fruit.”

What our panel thought

“Orange peel on the nose. Candied-orange hop character. One-dimensional, as the itrus hop profile sways atop an indistinguishable malt backbone. Zestful and intriguing finish with some deeper tones. Enjoyable and straightforward.”

What our editors thought

“Orange with faint notes of cranberry and herbal tea in the aroma becomes heavier in the sweet citrus sip. Dynamic as the herbal bitterness rises from a guttural growl to a slim pithy sustain.”

Brewskey Pub & Taproom Singularity Citra

“Funky overripe melon and pineapple in the nose. A firm bitterness, some dank, diesel hop flavor followed by fresh melon. Just a slight sharpness fades away into softer flavors and a lasting sweeter finish.”

New Anthem Beer Project Strange Spot In The Sky

“Deep orange haze. Soft aromas with lingering citrus notes. Orange notes with layers of vanilla and pepper. Velvety finish with soothing citrus-hop flavors with an elevated bitterness. Spirited yet straightforward.”

Wallenpaupack Brewing Company Lake Haze #15

Fruity coffee dominant nose with some citrus hidden deep beneath. That coffee dominance continues on into the flavor, where the hops play a supporting role. Really refreshing, chocolate, creamy, coffee flavors with tropical and citrus hop flavor underneath. There is enough body here to make it work without getting in the way of the star of the show. Very clean for all of the flavors, you can pick them out individually, yet they are harmonious too. The sum is more than the parts here, a very bold take on an IPA and executed to perfection., Wow! Coffee in your face!. Amazing coffee aroma and a follow up with straight up coffee taste. Definitely not what I would expect from an IPA, much less a light colored appearance. There is an assertive sweetness that is balanced by a smooth and well rounded fruity bitterness. I want to keep coming back for more to experience the amazing experience going across my palate. Mind Boggling good!!
