West Sixth Brewing Co Valencia Berliner Weisse

What the brewers say

A crisp, refreshing sour German ale with Valencia orange added.”

What our panel thought

“Light, tart, citrusy. Orange aroma is reminiscent of digging your fingernails into a fresh easy-peeler. On tasting, it’s more lemony up front but shifts to orange mid-sip with a slight graininess to the malt character. Perhaps needs a bit more carbonation for a refreshing summer-afternoon sipper.”

What our editors thought

“Soft citrus on the nose, lemon with a wheaty note. Gentle in the sip, lower carbonation heightens the perception of citrus sweetness, but it’s backed by a fine tart note. Bright, refreshing, zippy.”

Moksa Brewing Co Yakima Trinity

“Aroma is piney and has berry fruit. Strawberries, papaya, peach, pine resin, grapefruit, woodland berries with hints of raspberry in the flavor. Moderate levels of carbonation allow the hop flavors to pop against a saltine or white-bread malty backbone. Well-balanced and finishes slightly dry.”

West Sixth Brewing Co. Meadoweisse Berliner Weisse

“Gentle peach, apricot, and nectarine-like stone fruit and citrus aromas give way to a restrained but noticeable tartness and mild acidity. Lactic notes are well-rounded and complementary. On the sweeter side, but malty presence softens overall acidity.”

Bent Water Brewing Company Built To Last

“Classic C-hop and caramel in the nose with a little wood and some booze. Woodier in the flavor, very cedar-like, as some vanilla and tannins lead the way. Good firm hop bitterness with plenty of alcohol and some caramel and toffee balance.”
