Telegraph Brewing White ale

What the brewers say

“A classic, unfiltered Belgian-style white ale brewed with coriander, orange peel, and locally grown chamomile flowers.”

What our panel thought

“This is a clean, easy-drinking, and well-balanced beer with simple and restrained malt characteristics that play nicely with the delicate floral hops notes and some spicy phenolics. The aroma conjures up images of freshly cut grass and wildflowers and invites you to dive right in.”

What our editors thought

“Slightly phenolic-leaning, with an herbal-tea character more than clove that adds depth. Finishes a touch sweeter than some to balance the spice, but a pleasant beer nonetheless.”

Upland Brewing Wheat Ale

A wonderfully complex aroma of spicy/peppery, citrus, and yeasty notes that gives way to an equally complex flavor profile. Flavors of pear, clove, and pepper intermingle with the wheat-malt backbone and are complemented by a clean, but distinct, hops bitterness. It finishes smooth yet clean, and the moderately high level of carbonation cleans the palate and gets you ready to jump right back in. Hard to believe so much can be packed into such a lightly colored beer.”

New Belgium Fat Tire Belgian White

“A pleasant, clean, and lemony aroma gives way to an enjoyably complex flavor combination of sweet wheat malt, floral, citrus, and soapy hops, and lightly spicy coriander and fermentation-derived notes. Wonderfully clean and complex.”

Shiner / Spoetzl Brewery White Wing

**Aroma:** “Strong, perfumey coriander with deep, earthy notes, backed up by a light, sweet wheat aroma.” **Flavor:** “Big coriander notes! Crisp and refreshing with a good carbonic bite. Clear but creamy mouthfeel (almost like Cream of Wheat) with a nice grainy sweetness in the background. Well balanced with some tartness and a crisp, slightly cidery finish.” **Overall:** “Good example of the style except for an odd earthy aroma. But very clean and refreshing. Spices are well balanced with the malt. Refreshing and herbal character is showcased. An easy drinking wit, but if you don’t like coriander, you won’t like this beer!”
