Wise Man Brewing Pocket Gold

What the brewers say

“A clean, smooth, pale German lager.”

What our panel thought

“Solid biscuit and pie-crust malt aroma with a hint of caramel; lovely spicy and floral hops, light apricot esters. Malt dominance continues in the flavor: pie crust and light toast with a hint of brown sugar. Earthy, woody, spearmint hop notes. A bit sweet but balanced well by the spicy hop bitterness. Finishes mostly dry.”

What our editors thought

“Malt notes lean into melon and stone fruit in the aroma, carrying through in a sweet burst at the start of the sip, balanced by a light, woody-herbal hop note.”

Cerebral Brewing Anomaly Detection

“In the aroma, light floral and herbal hops. Hint of orange and pear. Moderate levels of fresh bread dough and bread crust. Malt flavor is mostly biscuit and pie crust with a bit of caramel. Light pear, orange, and orange-peel notes. Finish is a touch sweet. Medium- low bitterness balances.”

Burial Beer Co Garden of Earthly Delights

“Complex aroma—_strong_ vanilla, berry, some herbal notes. Vanilla in the flavor overpowers the more subtle notes. Chamomile, with semisweet background berry notes. Medium-sweet body and subdued sourness.”

Wise Man Brewing Weeks Work

“Caramel and toffee dominate the nose with low-level red-apple esters. Flavor is malt-forward but not overly sweet. Light spicy hops. Slight roast character in the finish. Light-bodied. Dry finish with lingering roastiness.”
