Yazoo Brewing Co Nut Brown

What the brewers say

“Notes of chocolate and caramel, and a slightly roasty finish.”

What our panel thought

“Toasty, light, warming cocoa malt aroma. Soft floral/woody hops. Light dry apricot and fig esters. Malt-forward flavor: bread crust, biscuit, toast, brown bread. Soft floral hop with mild bitterness. Hints of apricot esters. Finishes toasty, fairly dry, malt lingers nicely.”

What our editors thought

“Beautiful broad, toasted bread-crust malt in the aroma, with light estery top notes. Refined and focused malt, lightly bready with very light bitterness and a well-appointed carbonation.”

Central 28 Miss Mary Brown

Aroma: “Toasty bread crust with a bit of Tootsie Roll, biscuit, and caramel. Toffee and some fruity esters of plum and cherry. A slight earthiness. Pleasant yeast esters, woody hops.” Flavor: “Moderate toasty malt with caramel and toffee. Apricot and cherry esters add some perceived sweetness. Very malt-focused. Moderate sweetness fades into a subtle lingering bitterness. For the initial sweetness, this beer finishes surprisingly dry. Woody hops are fairly restrained. Full-bodied, balanced finish.” Overall: “Very malt-focused with low hops bitterness. A bit of dark-fruit esters plays nicely with the malt. Pretty solid brown with a nice ester profile. Almost pushing the amber side of things. Almost comes off as this curious hybrid between an English brown and small, restrained Belgian dubbel. A nice change-of-pace beer that offers a fresh take on the brown.”

Yazoo Brewing Co Dos Perros

“Lightly toasted malt aroma, more drying than sweet. Light floral esters and hop aroma. Light body with background toast flavors. Malt sweetness very restrained, hops appropriately low. Finishes fairly dry. Very drinkable.”

Yazoo Brewing Co Tripping Gold

“A relatively light nose with hints of toast, pepper, fruity esters, a touch of crackery malt. Presents a rich malt profile with some toffee, dried fig, candy sugar, firm peppery notes. Bold bitterness carries into the lightly dry and sneaky warming finish.”
