What the brewers say

“Bready maltiness is balanced by a light spicy hop aroma and smooth finish.”

What our panel thought

“Clear golden pour, soft white head. Floral, spicy hop notes—a splash of lemon—combine with soft-cracker malt in aroma. Lively body. Toast-like malt sweetness presents early; pronounced yet soft bitterness marries smooth, soft bready malt. Well-balanced finish.”

What our editors thought

“Light doughy malt in the nose balances lavender-violet floral notes. The sip is round and slightly sweet, with broad, friendly character that keeps an edge (like a suburban dad who still shows up at punk shows).”

Urban Chestnut Brewing Company Stammtisch

**Aroma:** “Clean with some sulfur tones. Subtle and delicate floral tones mix with some citrus and noble spice for a nontraditional combination. Very light malt and sulfur aromas, and some more dank hops flavors emerge as it warms.” **Flavor:** “Delicate sulfur tones, with just enough biscuit malt to soften the edges of the spice and pine hops bitterness. The bitterness lingers without overdoing it, but sits on the tongue a bit too long.” **Overall:** “Intense adventurous hops flavors that would give pause to the traditionalist, but still deserves its place at the table for an ever-evolving beer consumer. The balance of the bitterness and malt creates a crispness that is welcoming and encourages a second glass.”

Urban Chestnut Brewing Company Schnickelfritz

“Light bready aroma with lemongrass and low pepper chiming in. Light lime notes join a moderate bready flavor, with coriander-like spice that lingers. As the beer warms, a moderate banana ester balances the citrus notes while the spice accentuates the dryness and masks the malt profile.”

Two Roads Brewing Co. Cruise Control Helles Lager (2020)

“Golden pour, big frothy white head. Pleasant citrus-floral hops integrate well with clean cracker-like malt and toast. Doughy malt. Spicy-lemon hops cutting through; some intriguing pepper notes lingering. Malt-forward, grainy-sweet finish. Could dial up carbonation and bitterness. Coalesces well, goes down easily.”
