100: Percent of the ingredients used in this year’s Craft Brewers Conference collaboration brew, the Centennial Pale Ale, that were sourced from Colorado. This is the first time the collaboration brew has been native to the conference host state.
253: Number of breweries that took home awards from the World Beer Cup, which took place during the Craft Brewers Conference in Denver, Colorado. These breweries come from five continents and twenty-two countries.
300,000: Square feet. The size of the Lagunitas Brewing Co. brewery that will open in Chicago in 2015.
1714: SB1714, that is. It’s the Florida Senate bill that will ban breweries from selling their product directly to the public if they sell more than 2,000 kegs of beer a year, and possibly cause Cigar City Brewing to flee from the state, if passed.
90: Percent of spent grain in the United States that gets re-sold or donated as livestock grain, according to a 2013 survey by the Brewers Association. This information came to light again this month in response to the Federal Drug Administration’s Food Safety Modernization Act which would cause brewers to purchase equipment and create packaging standards for the repurposing of their spent grain. In response to the opposition of many craft breweries, the FDA is revising the bill.
140: Number of permanent jobs that have been created by New Belgium’s new facility in Asheville, North Carolina. New Belgium will officially break ground on May 1, which will also create more than 400 construction jobs.
