“Hardywood Baltic Sunrise is conditioned on locally roasted coffee beans from Black Hand Coffee Company in Richmond, Virginia. Our Baltic porter is an invigorating, full-bodied lager with a bold aroma of freshly brewed coffee preceding notes of bittersweet chocolate, hints of dark cherry, and a malty smooth finish.”
What our panel thought
Aroma: “Major coffee, but not harsh or acidic. Some roasted malt and semisweet chocolate in the background. Coffee adds an almost smoky character. Grassy hops.”
Flavor: “Clean. Roast chocolate and coffee. Light green pepper. Mild supporting hops balance the malt and coffee. Nice coffee flavors, medium sweet.”
Overall: “Well-balanced with good malt complexity that is accentuated nicely by the coffee addition. This is the highway centerline of coffee porters: straight down the middle. Zone out and go.”
