Bartlett Hall Pizzicato Pils

What the brewers say

“Crisp pils with Tettnang, Saphir, Kazbek hops.”

What our panel thought

“Intense floral nose. Soft on the tongue. Floral and earthy hop flavors backed by bready malt character. Slightly forward bitterness and mineral character extend into the finish with a hint of sweetness.”

What our editors thought

“Friendly herbal and floral notes in the nose offer a welcome invite. A bit exuberant in the flavor, overflowing with high-key yet voluminous hop notes, but the quality of the hops buffers any excess.”

Westbound & Down Brewing Company Westbound Italian Pils

Big, bright, floral hop nose. In the flavor, more floral hops with notes of lavender, diesel, dankness, wet grass. Light, bready malt sweetness helps to balance. Dry finish, as bitterness lingers long after the sip. Fun, modern interpretation. Just restrained enough to come together.

Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company Trauger Pils

**Aroma:** “Nice fresh hops character in the nose, with some citrus and a little spice. Some bready malt sweetness in the back with a smooth blend of Pilsner sulfur character and noble hops pepper. Smells like a German beer hall in the best way possible.” **Flavor:** “The malt body is light for the hops bitterness in this Pilsner and hits with a slight bready malt sweetness and citrus before the hops kick in to balance. Good carbonation, super smooth, with a nice carbonic bite. Slightly bitter finish, but clean.” **Overall:** “Solid traditional German Pilsner, and the only thing missing is a sausage and some sauerkraut. Refreshing beer that is a service and a credit to the style.”

Saint Arnold Brewing Company Summer Pils

**Aroma:** “The floral hops character hits in the front, and malt bread-like sweetness sits in the back of nose. The Pilsner sulfur character dominates, and it’s almost minerally in that respect. Flowery hops character is medium-low, woody, and spicy, and blends in throughout.” **Flavor:** “Light-bodied but balanced well and slightly creamy. The hops are not overly bitter but provide some nice spice to break up the malt biscuit sweetness. Very clean and dry finish.” **Overall:** “Refreshing Pilsner with a nice balance that’s very enjoyable and drinkable. With the crisp hops flavors and light citrus tartness in the background, it makes me want to take another sip.”
