Kros Strain Brewing Company Imperial Stout

What the brewers say

“Imperial stout aged for 24 months in Heaven Hill barrels.”

What our panel thought

“On the nose, lightly roasted malt gives way quickly to chocolate/caramel/bourbon sweetness. Rich almost bready malt underneath instantly bumps up against bourbon. A viscous malt profile with blackstrap molasses and bittersweet chocolate laced with vintage port. Spirits overwhelm other barrel character, but vanilla adds late complexity. An enjoyable sipper.”

What our editors thought

“Subtle spice tones in the nose—vanilla, chai, curry—carry through in the sip, with warming ethanol buzz. Quirky yet engaging.”

Kros Strain Brewing Company Sticky Flannel

“Maple syrup notes jump from the glass supported by hints of dark chocolate, coffee. The sip is an intense blend of maple and coffee. Mouthfeel is near perfect.”

Kros Strain Brewing Company Dunkel Breakin' My Heart

“Simple caramel notes with fresh-baked bread, light chocolate, and hints of floral hops. The somewhat-sweet chocolate is a bit more prominent in the flavor and is joined by hints of toffee, coffee, and a touch of nuttiness. Floral and lightly spicy hop notes temper the malt sweetness and linger into a lightly bitter finish.”

Kros Strain Brewing Company Barrelywine Vol. 7

“Toffee and caramel in the nose are accentuated by shortbread cookie and subtle hints of vanilla, coconut, mint, and almond. The cookie note is more pronounced in the flavor, with elements of pistachio and cashew. Boozy character creates a fairly abrupt finish.”
