BarrieHaus Beer Co. Ice Works Cold IPA

What the brewers say

“Citra, Mosaic, and Cashmere hops. Made with our Haus lager yeast and fermented at traditional ale temps.”

What our panel thought

“Big, overripe tropical aroma—pineapple, mango, orange, lemon, papaya, light waft of grape. Flavor accentuates citrus with a moderately grassy, dry hops character; bit of piney dankness. Low, well-balanced bitterness and dry, fairly crisp finish. Hint of alcohol warmth. I wish there was a bit more bitterness.”

What our editors thought

“Melon and tropical nose with a touch of oxidation. Slightly sweet tropical fruit sip with herbal spice.”

Epic Brewing Yelling At Clouds COLD IPA

“Moderate tropical aroma with pineapple and coconut up front; a touch understated, showing off a splash of earthy hops but anchored to a coppery scent. More interesting flavor: orange, lemon, light dankness sliding into moderate bitterness. Light dance of spicy hops in the aftertaste. Clean, crisp. Underplays its hand.”

Wayfinder Beer Jazz Witch Cold IPA

“Light, pleasant tropical aroma of tangerine, lemongrass, pineapple; hints of cherry, honey, diesel. Flavor delivers a slightly different fruit mix, trading some lemongrass for orange blossom; notes of Necco candy wafers. Bitterness provides a nice grounding for citrus. Fine balance, medium-light sweetness into a fairly dry, clean finish.”

DESTIHL Brewery Triton Barleywine

“Copper color with a high head that retains well. Somewhat muted aroma of light caramel with richer graham-cracker notes. Low notes of black cherry and date appear with some warmth. Light pine-like hops, almost an afterthought. Very rich malt and malt esters dominate the flavor. Carmel, toast, and hints of pipe tobacco. Light cherry, date, fig, and low prune esters. No hops, just backing bitterness—it’s malt-forward all the way. Finishes medium-sweet, well restrained, with malt fruity flavors lingering awhile. Lovely beer, great balance.”
