Deschutes Brewery Blue Butterfly
What the brewers say
A small-batch experimental beer that transforms and changes as it is aged with Brett in oak barrels and then finally dry hopped.
What our panel thought
Pleasant aroma: bready malt, chamomile, grassy hop—restrained pepper phenolics play well with classic hop profile. Smooth bitterness, soft cracker malt; herb and spice driven more by hops than fermentation. Soft mouthfeel. Drying, peppery finish. Easy to drink.
What our editors thought
Spicy, peppery, peach-jam nose, with a grassy herbal note behind. Brett in the sip is soft, losing its edge to broad stone fruit. Soft without losing its punch or focus. Accessible and familiar, yet layered and thoughtful.
