Full Sail Brewing Co KYLA Hibiscus Lime

What the brewers say

A brilliant red brew with hibiscus flowers and a tart twist of lime. Gluten free, vegan, 0 sugar, live cultures.

What our panel thought

Limeade. Cherry limeade in the radiant pink color without the cherry in the aroma and flavor, but a faint floral note. Aroma lands with a touch of complementary acetic-acid notes and a pungent lime. Flavor matches the aroma but heads further down the path with the lime character—verging on the squeeze-bottle lime from the grocery store with no expiration date. The hibiscus drives the deep pink color and a nice floral finish. The carb level is medium, and there is a just a touch of sweetness to counter the tannins from the tea/hibiscus, keeping the drinkability high. Nicely done although some might prefer a more lactic tartness over the acetic.

What our editors thought

Lime soda on the nose, but the shocking magenta creates a beautiful cognitive dissonance. The sip pulls off a magic trick—simultaneously sweet yet dry, bold yet restrained. It’s cleverly constructed without feeling forced.

Full Sail Brewing Co KYLA Ginger Tangerine

Aroma is strongly ginger-forward, reminding one of Jamaican-style ginger ale. Light citrus notes float in the background. Solid head. Hazy, with a light yellow-green tint (like Squirt or Fresca soda). High carb. Clean and refreshing. Ginger is solid and in control, but not as fiery as ginger can get. Tangerine notes contribute to the acidity, with a faint citrus halo in the aftertaste. Ginger starts to carry a bit of a bitter note after some drinking, but it’s not unpleasant. Finish is dry with the ginger lingering awhile. The kombucha base provides some tannic earthiness. Very drinkable.

Full Sail Brewing Co KYLA Pink Grapefruit

Bright pink-grapefruit aroma with low orange rind. Pale pink and cloudy color with large active bubbles. Grapefruit comes into play in the flavor with strong, sweet grapefruit balanced with a dry tea-like finish. Easy drinking, lightly sweet. Very nice!

Full Sail Brewing Co KYLA Sunbreak Coconut Crush

Coconut is up front in the aroma with the yuzu behind it playing a supporting role. Once you get beyond the initial nasal shock, the combination of unconventional yet surprisingly complementary flavor components creates a remarkably drinkable kombucha. In the flavor, there’s more balance with lots of tropical vibes, and the sea salt is a nice touch. The coconut is mild enough to pick up in the initial aroma and just a tad on the finish, while the yuzu provides just enough citrus to be an overall enhancement. The base kombucha is solid, medium-low acidity with no acetic.
