Alvarado Street Brewery Peninsula Pilsner

What the brewers say

“A decidedly hoppy pilsner brewed with traditional Czech Saaz and Tettnang.”

What our panel thought

“Brilliant herbal, citrus, and woody pine aromas; also sulfur, peppermint, garlic. Pinewood flavor reminiscent of retsina. Unique, out-of-balance, tea-like herbal notes overwhelm the palate. Fermentation profile is clean, but balance is out of whack. Heavily hopped but enjoyable.”

What our editors thought

“Strong American Noble–like hop notes dominate the nose, with woody bits of cedar and spruce. Sip has an almost Pacific-Northwest-forest feel. Uniquely characterful and a departure from the norm, but it works nicely.”
