Citra, Mosaic, and Simcoe hops pair nicely against an English-malt backbone.

What our panel thought

Hints of peach, pineapple, and passion fruit complement the distinct citrus- and pine-forward hops aromas. The soft mouthfeel and subtle malt sweetness are a nice canvas on which to express the tangerine, lemon, and pine hops flavors, with hints of onion, green pepper, and garlic. The alcohol is sneaky but present, with a faint note of boozy warmth.

What our editors thought

The de rigueur Citra and Mosaic nose takes a bit of a turn with strawberry and peach yeast esters for a broad and soft aroma. The sip is more of the same—pillowy peach, apricot, and strawberry with a very light bitter-ness.

“Aggressive hop aroma—lime, grapefruit, underlying catty note, light grass. In the flavor, malt sweetness nicely balances strong hop flavors—tropical mango, passion fruit, citrus zest. Balanced, smooth, creamy, with a pleasantly bitter finish. A touch pithy, harsh, lasting into the finish. Not as harmonious as it could be. Well-constructed and interesting.”

Rich aroma with notes of dried coconut, chocolate, and coffee with a subtle smoky character. Round and full-bodied with enough bitterness to cut the sweetness and keep it from being cloying and a lingering finish with dark chocolate, spice, and coconut. Warming and complex without harsh edges.

New Belgium Dominga Grapefruit
