What our panel thought

Aroma: “Fruity, sweet, resinous hop aroma with pils malt. Some lemon and grapefruit character. Creative and interesting. Needs more malt, but assertive.”

Flavor: “Aggressive citrus and berry hop flavors. Malt balance is clean and relatively neutral but slightly biscuity. High alpha hop character. Bitterness is crisp and lingering, assertive but not harsh.”

Overall: “An unusual hop choice for a pils, almost like an India Pale Lager. Hops hijack the flavor away from the pils malt and out of balance. This beer is a story about hops and a non-traditional interpretation of the style, more in the spirit of a pale ale than a pils. But it’s a very good pale lager.”

Sixpoint Brewery Resin

**Aroma:** “Honey and citrus up front, like an orange slice dipped in orange blossom honey. Some grapefruit, resin, pine, lemon balm, mint.” **Flavor:** “Sweet, over-ripe orange and orange peel with a nice supportive malt backbone with a honey sweetness that plays nicely with the hops. Still bitter in the finish but balanced with some sweetness.” **Overall:** “Well-balanced and hop forward. The honey and citrus pair very nicely together. First the complex flower-citrus-hop thing with aroma and flavor, then you swallow and get some bitterness. Well-executed. That first sip will have you wanting a second one.”

Victory Brewing Company Prima Pils

**Aroma:** Complex, strong hop profile with grapefruit, grass, pine, and citrus. Pils malt adds fullness. Some minerals. If aroma had a color, this would be dark green. **Flavor:** Moderate bready malt sweetness followed by intense, resinous hop profile. Bitterness is high for the style but finishes clean and dry. Moderate malt sweetness with nice pils malt flavor. Needs more malt to balance. Crisp, with a carbonic bite and lingering astringency. **Overall:** A nice, different, complex take on a pils that leans in the direction of India Pale Lager. Hops shine but aren’t overpowering. A bit unbalanced but interesting and very tasty. Like drinking pine needles. You may need to scrape your tongue! Hop lovers, rejoice!

Jack's Abby House Lager

Aroma: “All the peach flavors, from flesh to skin, jump out immediately. Maybe it’s the vanilla and cinnamon, but it even has a peach pit aroma.” Flavor: “Pronounced acidity immediately upfront, but rolls into a wonderful peach juiciness. The spices are subtle, the peach is the star of the show, with a nice lingering mild sweetness that helps balance out the acidity.” Overall: “Aside from wanting more cinnamon to shine through, I love this beer. Great balance and drinkability for style. A satisfying, warming, and comforting presentation of peach.”
