What the brewers say

“Imperial milk stout with an overabundance of single-origin cacao and fresh orange zest.”

What our panel thought

“Loads of dark-chocolate notes, complemented by hints of mint, orange zest, and nougat that create the impression of a candy-shop counter. Chocolate is heavy-handed and lands incredibly well in the nose with just the right amount of orange to make this the dessert beer of Grandma’s house. The flavor impressively manages to capture the chocolate-hop flavors while remaining firmly in the beer space. The orange profile in the flavor picks up intensity and is perfectly executed to land with nibs and the overall base beer. Intensifies as it warms.”

What our editors thought

“Intense chocolate orange notes in the nose, gracious yet sleek. The orange and chocolate integrate perfectly in the sip for a beautiful chocolate orange synthesis that’s both sweet yet drinkable by the glass.”

REVIEWS FOR YOU >

2nd Shift Brewing Chico's Revenge

Delicate but rich, roasty, complex nose; notes of anise, chocolate. Candy-like sweetness shifts gradually toward malt-driven chocolate and vanilla. Runs gamut of bitter roast, rich sweet chocolate, hints of dried fruit. Pleasant, tongue-coating body. Round, velvety finish. Sweet, but with enough character to back it up.

Starr Hill Brewery Little Red Roostarr

Dark, black-coffee nose with low fruity-pear, baker's chocolate, and vegetal impression of hot chilies—like jalapeños and mole. Big punch of bitter, acidic coffee in flavor; low, rich chocolate. Fluffy, thick texture, light sweetness. Dry finish.

Wolf's Ridge Brewing Chocolate Port Barrel Dire Wolf

“Bitter chocolate nose mixes with vanilla and red wine. Intoxicating flavors of smooth chocolate, vanilla, and dark roast, with a dark-fruit backbone. Thick, not quite chewy. Port barrel adds complexity throughout. Smooth and balanced, delicious and well executed.”
